Inside IROCO Design's 2026 Showroom Exhibition

From July 6th to 10th, IROCO Design opened the doors of LIGHT BOX GALLERY in Minami-Aoyama for LIFE IN MOTION, a week-long showroom exhibition exploring how the spaces we work, gather, and live in are being redrawn. Over the course of the week, we welcomed more than 130 guests, with roughly 75 joining us for a dedicated cocktail reception on the evening of July 9th. What follows is a look back at the ideas behind the exhibition, and why we believe they matter for the projects shaping Japan's interiors right now.
The premise behind LIFE IN MOTION was simple, if quietly ambitious: the urban landscape is changing, and the spaces within it are changing with it. Offices, hotels, and hospitality venues once had clearly defined, single-purpose roles. Today, those boundaries are dissolving. A lobby doubles as a lounge; a workplace becomes a place to host, to pause, to meet. Spaces are no longer judged solely on function, but on how well they flex to the rhythm of the people moving through them.
LIFE IN MOTION is, at its core, a statement about what should define a space. Not its four walls or its stated purpose, but the life that unfolds inside it — the dynamic, often unpredictable behaviours of the people who occupy spaces day to day. We framed the exhibition around two ideas that we see increasingly at play across our projects: Luxury Workstyle and Urban Hospitality. The first speaks to a workplace that has grown more considered, more comfortable, more attentive to the person seated in it. The second speaks to a hospitality sensibility migrating into everyday spaces — offices, lobbies, and mixed-use developments that now borrow the warmth and generosity once reserved for hotels.
LIFE IN MOTION also marked another milestone for us: the continued introduction of world-renowned design brands to Japan through IROCO Design. The exhibition brought together and debuted for the first time in Japan pieces from MATTIAZZI, True Design, La Cividina, Wagner, Dynamobel, and arco — six names known internationally for craftsmanship and design integrity, and each, in its own way, a fit for the Luxury Workstyle and Urban Hospitality environments we champion.
Beyond the furniture itself, LIFE IN MOTION was designed as a space for connection. That intention came into full focus on July 9th, when we hosted a cocktail reception bringing together architects, interior designers, project developers, journalists, and other decision-makers shaping the built environment in Japan. Roughly 75 guests joined us that evening, adding to the more than 130 who visited the showroom across the full week.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us at LIGHT BOX GALLERY over the course of the week, and to the brands who trusted us to present their work in this context. LIFE IN MOTION captured a moment in how we think about design for contract interiors in Japan, and it is a conversation we intend to keep having. As the lines between workplace and hospitality continue to blur, IROCO Design remains committed to bringing considered, globally sourced furniture into projects built to move as fluidly as the people who use them.
